Kanya came into Winter classes with some silk brocade and a nice crisp cotton to work up Vogue #1433. This is a fairly straightforward princess seam dress with a gathered skirt.
The pattern itself is trued well and the brocade pattern she used here is small enough that you don’t get huge discrepancies along the princess seam like you sometimes would. Overall this is a good solid pattern. You can tell that the fabric they used for the sample Vogue made for the pattern envelope has slightly more drape than the brocade – it gives a little more sculptural quality to the shoulders and neckline.
As we reviewed this project and this fabric, we thought that perhaps the only thing that could improve the look was maybe a piping around the neckline, armholes, and waist. Just something contrasting to really set it off, but that was the only real note here.
