So Claire Shaeffer’s Vogue #8578 is on the docket for Olena’s Spring/Summer class project.
It is a great dress that is deceptively simple; we are in week three of classes and have just begun to think about final fabric selection.

We were talking about different black fabrics, but specifically three: a silk faille, a nice black crepe wool, and a really dense blend with an amazing drape that is so purely black it is almost vantablack.
Classroom conversation:
“The first two are nice, but black is a little boring.”
“I like that third one (the blackest), but they are all a little funeral-y to me”
“That one isn’t just for any funeral! With that black fabric and this dress, it is for your ex-husband’s funeral!”
Which is probably the best read we’ve had of a fabric and pattern combination in a while.
Just pitch-perfect. Someone has been watching old Dynasty re-runs.
