Basic Tambour Techniques With Nathan Perez

We’ve talked about Nathan Perez and his hand sewing before.  He is probably the most gifted and patient hand sewist we have come across in more than 25 years of professional sewing.  Most of the time people who sew hand seams like he does are professionally trained for years.

We’ve also written about Simon Henry and his tambour work in relation to Verena’s latest project.  These two things have inspired Nathan to offer up a small “Introduction to Basic Tambour Techniques” class this Summer at the Workroom during his break at Columbia college.

This will be a great way to learn to embroider and bead with a tambour hook and get you off to a strong start.  We’ll be writing about it more as the Summer goes on, but this would be a great way to learn some of the basics!

The first day he will cover the basic stitches needed and general tambour setup.
The second and third days he will cover threading, directional stitching, uses and applications, beadwork, and sequins.
